5 misconceptions about vaping and the truth that surprises players

Vaping is a very new trend, compared to other “stress relief methods” such as alcohol and cigarettes, vaping is only in its infancy. Because it is new to the market, there are obviously countless questions and misunderstandings surrounding this hobby.

The journey of vaping into the light is not smooth. Except for those who really understand vaping, almost the entire society, including a large number of vapers, are being manipulated by the media, believing in baseless statements that defame e-cigarettes.

In this article, The Vape Club will help you debunk the most common misconceptions about vaping. Not only that, we will also provide the most objective information, based on scientific statistics as well as real-world evidence, hoping to help the vaper community feel more confident in their choices. Let's get started!

“Vape is just as harmful as cigarettes”?

This is perhaps the most harmful misconception and also the biggest reason why many people are not ready to switch from traditional cigarettes (TLTT) to electronic cigarettes (TLĐT).

In 2022, many health experts in the UK researched together and agreed on the results that: "In the short and medium-term, the harm caused by e-cigarettes is only a very small fraction of what traditional cigarettes do to the body."

Traditional cigarettes, when burned, release thousands of different chemicals, most of which are toxic to the body and 70 of which have been proven to have the ability to create malignant cells (cancer). Meanwhile, vaping does not involve any combustion process, so it eliminates a huge amount of common toxins in cigarettes, such as Carbon monoxide or Tar (tar) which are not present in vape vapor.

Not only that, according to a survey conducted on people who have switched from TLTT to TTĐT, they all showed significant health improvements. Along with that, the rate of diseases such as lung cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke is also much lower than the group of people who continue to use TLTT.

“Nicotine is toxic, which is the main reason why vaping is dangerous”?

Contrary to popular belief, although nicotine is addictive, if used in small doses (<1000mg/day/person), this substance is almost harmless to health. In fact, even the addictive properties of nicotine are only mild, similar to caffeine in coffee. Moreover, the body receives and decomposes nicotine at a very fast rate, on average it only takes 2-3 hours for the body to eliminate all the nicotine it has taken in before.

What really harms you when you smoke is the thousands of chemicals produced from the burning reaction of dry tobacco leaves. These chemicals form a very sticky, black and foul-smelling mixture, which Vietnamese people commonly call “tar”. Not only that, in addition to tar, cigarette smoke also contains a large amount of substances that have the effect of “increasing neurotransmission”, to put it simply, it will make you addicted to nicotine faster, your body will secrete much more dopamine than when using only nicotine.

Nicotine itself does not cause lung cancer, heart disease, stroke, or other tobacco-related diseases. In fact, pure nicotine has been used safely for hundreds of years in chewing gum and patches to help people quit smoking.

“Vapes entice people to start smoking traditional cigarettes”?

The reality is completely opposite to the above misconception: vaping with moderate nicotine content has been proven to be the most effective method of quitting smoking.

Many surveys have shown that quitting smoking with vaping has a 30-50% faster completion time than older methods such as nicotine patches or gum.

The reason why many people feel this is the best method is because vaping also involves the action of bringing your hand to your mouth to inhale, just like smoking a cigarette. In addition, the feeling of the "smoke" you receive is also harsh, warm and "intoxicating" experience is no different from smoking a traditional cigarette.

The most important thing to be able to quit smoking successfully with vape is to understand what you are using, as well as choose the right type of juice with the right level of nicotine. Nicotine for vape should only be strong enough to reduce the symptoms of "craving". Nicotine is too light and you will gradually return to traditional cigarettes, on the contrary, if you choose a juice that is too strong, the user will gradually become dependent on vape because this is the product with the highest nicotine content you can find on the market.

At TVC, when customers come to the store, they will be consulted by staff to choose the juice that best suits their needs. Do not hesitate to tell us the problem you are facing so that our consultants can help you find the most satisfactory solution.

“Vaping is the reason for popcorn lung”?

“Popcorn lung” is the name of a rare lung disease. This disease is better known in the medical community as “Bronchiolitis Obliterans” and once contracted, there is no complete recovery.

As for the reason for the name “Popcorn Lung,” the disease is commonly found in workers on the popcorn production line. People at high risk of developing the disease are those who are regularly exposed to diacetyl, the chemical used to give popcorn its characteristic flavor.

Back to vaping, it is suspected that fatty, dairy, and popcorn-flavored e-liquids contain similar chemicals, leading to concerns that vaping could lead to popcorn lung.

However, this was soon clarified when scientists found that the amount of diacetyl in cigarette smoke is 700-1000 times higher than in vape, while smoking has never been the cause of popcorn lung.

It has also been discovered that we are exposed to diacetyl every day from the surrounding environment, using vape (5-10ml/day) only increases the amount of this substance absorbed into the body by a mere 9% compared to not smoking at all.

Although it has not been proven that diacetyl in vapes is safe, many countries have completely banned this substance as well as suspended the operations of manufacturers if diacetyl is detected in essential oils. Therefore, you can be completely assured about the safety and health-friendliness of vapes.

“Vape affects people around”?

Whether vaping affects the health of those around you or not is still not fully understood. However, there is currently no evidence that vaping has a negative impact on passive smokers.

With tobacco, the problem of passive smoking is and will always be a burning issue because there is much evidence showing that: Passive smokers have a risk of getting sick almost equal to direct smokers.

Meanwhile, vapes do not have a burning tip like cigarettes, so there is absolutely no excess smoke spreading uncontrollably around. Moreover, vape vapor is 95% safer than traditional cigarettes for direct smokers, and even safer for passive smokers because most of the harmful substances (if any) in vape vapor have been almost completely absorbed during the smoking process.

However, it is still good to be careful, it is best not to use vape when there are children, pregnant women or places with "no smoking" signs. After all, there is still nicotine in vape vapor and it can cause irritation to people with poor health conditions.
