How Airflow Affects the Experience

About airflow

Many people who are new to vaping often wonder whether airflow affects the vaping experience or not. I am sure about this, in fact airflow is the most decisive factor in whether your vape is good or bad. Controlling airflow is not difficult but it is something that any vaper needs to know by heart. In this article I will explain why.

In the early days of the vape industry, when vape devices were first commercialized, airflow was often very limited. It was easier and cheaper to produce vape-pen devices with fixed airflow. Most vape products at that time had fixed airflow, not customizable. Vapes at this time were often designed to simulate the puff of cigarettes to easily reach customers who were regular smokers. That was the original idea, but after vapes had been around for a while, more and more vape kits with customizable airflow in the form of rings or air pins were produced to suit consumer tastes. Vapers no longer just wanted a product that simulated cigarettes, they wanted more, which was the flavor that vapes brought.

Breaking things down a bit, what exactly is airflow?

Most vapers understand that it is the airflow, which provides air to bring vape smoke to the mouth. Airflow is not just the airflow through the coil, it is a complete system from the air outlet to the driptip mouth. In the article about Flavor-Chaser, I also talked about how you can adjust the air outlet and driptip on most atomizers, I often call it the inlet and outlet. However, in between them there is also the combustion chamber and the chimney, very few manufacturers allow you to customize these two things because they are attached to the structure of the entire atomizer. Synchronizing the airflow is very important, you cannot close the air outlet, replace the small-mouth driptip on a tank with a large chamber, chimney and vice versa. Too much difference in size between the parts in the airflow system will lead to a jerky, very uncomfortable vapor while still not ensuring heat dissipation and flavor.

The impact of airflow on user experience

Okay, now let’s move on, why does changing the airflow affect the taste experience? Of course, changing the air ring or changing the drip tip will not make you vape lemon juice into watermelon, of course not, vaping is not that magical. Flavor aside, the two most important things that affect the vaping experience are harshness and vapor quality. I will talk about each of these below.

First is the harshness, the more air that goes into the system, the more air will mix with the smoke. This cools the vapor and significantly reduces the harshness of the juice. Although most vapers prefer a smooth vapor, there are still those who want to experience a vape with a certain harshness, maybe it reminds them of the feeling of smoking a cigarette or maybe it is simply their preference.

The effect of airflow on taste and smoke experience

Next is the quality of the smoke. As mentioned above, air helps dilute the vape smoke. Although this helps create a cool, easy-to-take deep breath, it also reduces the flavor of the juice. Small airflow gives us a condensed, flavorful vape but will be hot. On the contrary, large airflow creates huge clouds of vape smoke because the smoke has been diluted and dissipated, the smoker can take a long hit, filling both lungs and then exhaling like Cloud-Chasers often do.

Hopefully after this article of mine, you have understood what airflow is and know that it has a great influence on creating a perfect vape. Each type of airflow will be suitable for a different type of vaper and a different type of juice. Adjusting airflow is not complicated, you can completely try adjusting it in many ways to achieve the most satisfactory experience. Remember that vaping is a hobby that promotes exploration, there are no mandatory standards.

Hope you have an enjoyable experience.
