New Zealand doctor recommends vaping on local morning news

Dr. John Cameron has raised the idea of helping smokers switch to vaping , saying that if done, public health would benefit greatly.

In a New Zealand TV morning news segment, Dr John Cameron said the only thing people should be putting in their lungs is fresh air. However, he added that if a smoker switched to vaping instead of continuing to smoke, they could reduce the damage to their lungs caused by smoking. “If we could get every smoker to switch to e-cigarettes , that would be a huge win,” he said.

Dr. Cameron added that, except for the possibility of addiction, nicotine has no negative effects on health; what is harmful to health in cigarettes is the burned ingredients such as tobacco leaves... Along with that, Dr. Cameron replied, research shows that nicotine can be beneficial for some neurological diseases such as dementia (Alzheimer's disease).

“We know that the best thing for your lungs is fresh air, that’s an indisputable fact, and the worst thing you can put in your lungs is cigarette butts. Vaping is safe , because it completely bridges this gap. Vaping devices can safely deliver nicotine to your body without burning organic matter that is harmful to your lungs.”

Most people who want to quit smoking use vaping as a tool.

Dr. Cameron concluded that the only risk he could see with vaping was that people who had never smoked or been exposed to nicotine would start the habit. However, there have been many studies showing the opposite, most people only start vaping to quit smoking and gradually become addicted.
