The Vaping Post: It's 2017 now, what progress has vaping made in 2016, professor?
Professor Bertrand Dautzenberg: Hardware research has progressed significantly. We now have atomizers that don’t leak, “smart products” that avoid dry hits, high-power products that can be used by anyone. Some of the power is useful to the vaper, the rest is lost in the environment, and this may be a new issue to discuss in the near future.
Today, we have effective methods of nicotine absorption and there are many studies that prove the effectiveness of switching from smoking to vaping. Vaping gives the feeling of smoking without the harmful effects of smoking, vaping also helps with weight management and has a positive effect on blood pressure. Unfortunately, sometimes there are misguided studies that cast a heavy shadow on vaping. In France, the media still has a certain understanding, but in the US and Germany, research results are constantly being presented without any explanation. However, I have seen positive changes taking place in Germany and Greece.
The Vaping Post: So what do you expect in 2017?
Professor Bertrand Dautzenberg: I have plans for 2020. I am confident that by 2020, all the questions about vaping will be answered. We know what is in the e-liquid , we know what substances are in the vape smoke when released into the environment. But we still do not know the effects after five to ten years of use. Finally, regarding the theory that “Vaping leads to smoking”, at least in countries like France, vaping has helped reduce the number of minors who smoke.
