“ Flavor Matter - Flavors help smokers quit ” are the words on a propaganda poster for the campaign to reject Sweden’s ban on flavored vapes. This poster is currently placed by the WVA (World Vapers' Alliance) in front of the parliament building in Stockholm to promote the consequences of the ban on vape flavors.
In the context that not only Sweden, but also other countries are considering and possibly applying new bans on vaping in general and flavored e-liquids in particular, the vaper community should speak up to have the right to use products that reduce the harm of smoking cessation in a legitimate and safe way.
According to the information we received, in February this year, the Swedish Ministry of Social Affairs made a shocking announcement to smokers in particular and vapers in general, that it would issue a bill to ban all vape flavors.
In response, tobacco harm reduction groups in Sweden are protesting fiercely, arguing that banning vape flavourings will force hundreds of thousands of Swedes back to smoking. This is a major setback in Sweden’s fight against tobacco and related diseases, which in 2018 achieved “smoke-free” status thanks to the use of safe nicotine replacement products.
Flavor Matter is a protest organized by the WVA (World Vaper Alliance) to raise the voice of vapers to politicians, saying that banning vape flavors will destroy the achievements in the field of harm reduction and smoking cessation that Sweden has achieved over the past years. A banner was brought to the Parliament in Stockholm to explain the effectiveness of vape flavors in smoking cessation, as well as to highlight the consequences of banning vape flavors.
Protesters hold propaganda posters in front of the Parliament building in Stockholm.
Mr. Michael Landl, General Director of WVA said:
“We are speaking out because decades of progress in smoking cessation rates are at risk of being lost. If the flavor ban is implemented, smoking rates will rise at the same rapid pace as in previous decades.”
Vape and electronic cigarettes are still unofficial products in Vietnam. The control and management of this product line is still controversial, however, in the current harsh world situation, there is a high risk that this type of harm reduction product will be tightly managed or put directly on the ban list in Vietnam. And we, those who want to pursue a healthy lifestyle, need to speak up to promote the need and benefits of vape products for those who are quitting smoking.
