In April 2021, market research company Mintel published a study in the UK stating that: 7 out of 10 tobacco users said they care more about their health than satisfying their smoking needs. Of these, 4 out of 10 people intend to quit smoking in the future, 87% of smokers and former smokers are currently trying to quit or replace cigarettes with Vape.
Mintel also announced that e-cigarette sales increased by 7% to £214 million (nearly 7 million billion VND) in 2020. This huge figure marks the campaign to make vaping popular and make vaping a less harmful alternative to traditional cigarettes in the UK. According to the 2021 assessment by Public Health England, up to 27.2% of people who have used vaping to try to quit smoking in the past 12 months, they think that vaping is a useful tool and solution in the process of quitting smoking.
To illustrate the above, Dinner Lady posted a post from their customer - Mosh, a FMCG Business Development Director in the US, who told about his journey to quit smoking.
Mosh - FMCG Business Development Director
“I started smoking when I was 16 and have been a heavy smoker for 22 years. It’s hard to quit when yesterday you were smoking 18 cigarettes a day. I cut down gradually, like smoking 5 today and trying to cut down to 3 tomorrow. After a while, I was smoking only 2 cigarettes a day.”
Mosh shared that during the early days of quitting smoking, he bought a few vape pens to use when he craved a cigarette.
"Sometimes I still crave a cigarette, but thinking about my family's health, I made up my mind and used a vape pen."
After successfully quitting smoking, he learned more about nicotine and continued to plan to reduce the amount of nicotine he took in.
“When I discovered that Dinner Lady's e-liquids come in a variety of flavors, I suddenly realized how disgusting the taste of cigarettes I used to smoke was.”
It's great that by combining his favorite flavors and nicotine, Mosh can still get the nicotine he needs and it's less harmful than if he used cigarettes.
“It really curbs my cravings.”
When asked about his motivation, Mosh shared:
“I always think about quitting smoking, but I always have every excuse to put it off until the next day, next month, even next year, and that day almost never comes.”
Mosh shared that his son is a great source of motivation that helps him stay calm and stronger on the path to quitting smoking.
“I have two sons, one is 6 years old and the other is 11 years old, and the younger one doesn't really understand about smoking, but my older son keeps saying, 'Daddy, you should stop smoking,' and that really works for me.”
“I am a role model for my children, so I don't want them to think their father can't quit and have to breathe in my smoke."
“My eldest child is about to enter middle school, which is also the age when I smoked my first cigarette. It would be terrible if he were to become addicted to smoking and unable to quit like me.”
