Jacques Le Houezec is a French tobacco expert. He is also the president of the SOVAPE association. For this interview, he returned early from the previous event, which was the foundation of the association aimed at promoting vaping in the French smoking cessation tool land.

Vapingpost: How do you feel about 2016?
Jacques Le Houezec: 2016 was the year of TPD’s transformation from the EU, and vaping products were wrongly equated with tobacco products, which is wrong because vaping products are used to quit smoking. Vaping is not a tobacco product or a pharmaceutical product, but simply a consumer product. This opinion appeared at the Vape Summit Paris held last year. It was the first time all the stakeholders were present to discuss. The biggest success of this event was that the parties found a common voice on the issue of vaping and the birth of an organization working for vaping at the General Directorate for Health.
Vapingpost: What are you looking forward to in 2017?
Jacques Le Houezec: The first Vaping Summit helped to create SOVAPE, an association that advocates vaping as an effective smoking cessation tool. Our work in 2016 was to start a constructive dialogue with the government. Although the results are still unclear, we will do our best to ensure that vaping is recognized by the government by 2017. It is important to communicate with each other with sincerity and honesty to reassure smokers and encourage those who want to quit to use vaping. It is a Public Health priority.
