News about the benefits of vaping is widely spread.

New studies from the US and Italy have provided more evidence that vaping is much safer and cheaper than smoking. The UK’s annual quit smoking campaign has seen a surge in popularity after changing its policy in favour of e-cigarettes.

However, some lawmakers have been pushing back against the ban, to the point where PHE has complained about misinformation being brought to Australia, leading to a debate in the government over harm reduction products.

American Vapers Save $1,400 a Year

A consumer advisory group in the US has found that smokers who use e-cigarettes can save a significant amount of money. While this is not surprising, most vapers have information confirming that e-cigarettes have economic as well as health benefits.

The LendEDU money management team conducted a survey of vapers in the US. The survey was limited to regular vapers to get an accurate picture of the average spend of a switcher. They found that the average vaper saves $118.05 per month compared to what they spend on cigarettes, for a yearly average of $1,416.60.

Other findings include that the average vaper spends about $80.20 on a new device, $9.29 on related accessories, and $60.76 on e-juice per month. And 71% of vapers say vaping saves money.

Tasmania tightens vape laws

Australia’s war on harm reduction showed no signs of abating this week, with Tasmania adding e-cigarettes to its 1997 tobacco ban. From 29 November, vapers already facing some of the world’s toughest laws will have to accept even more pressure.

The amendment puts vaping laws on par with tobacco laws. That means anyone selling these products must have a government license and their background will be checked to ensure compliance. Penalties for those who sell them to minors will also be harsher. Vapes will be banned in all areas where tobacco is banned and will not be advertised.

Vape smoke is not toxic

A new study has further confirmed that e-cigarette smoke poses no health risks. The results will be published in the Journal of Aerosol Science in January. They found that vape smoke is 5,700 times less toxic than cigarette smoke, which in the real world means it is completely harmless.

The Cassino University team studied the chemical composition of vape smoke instead of testing on model samples. They found that the concentrations of all substances were within the safety standards of the WHO and the US Environmental Protection Agency.

Stoptober brings victory to vape shops

BNH’s annual Stoptober campaign is complete and the results show that support for vaping has had a significant impact. Last year, Stoptober encouraged vapers to use traditional quitting methods in clinics, but most people knew these were not very effective. This year, vaping products have become a key part of the campaign, with distributors reporting a 29% increase in sales compared to the same period last year.
