An article in Medical Press pointed out that in France, the number of regular smokers decreased by several million between 2016 and 2017. The data was collected through a survey of adults aged 18 to 75.
“In 2017, 31.9% of respondents were habitual smokers, and 26.9% were regular smokers. This represents a 3.2% and 2.5% reduction in smoking prevalence, respectively,” the study noted, adding that this was equivalent to a reduction of 1 million regular smokers in just one year.
The health minister attributed this to increased tobacco taxes, and said nothing more about e-cigarettes, despite the fact that they are very popular with the French people. In fact, surveys show that 2.7% of the French population used e-cigarettes regularly in 2017.
The vape market in France is booming
Last month, Vapingpost France and PGVG Marketing released data showing that the number of vape shops in France is on the rise, suggesting that the vape market in the country is not only recovering, but showing signs of thriving.
The French market grew strongly in 2014 and 2015, stabilizing and continuing to expand in 2016. The article points out that the number of vape shops has been steadily increasing, showing that the popularity of vaping in France is second only to the UK.
