Why don't young people choose traditional cigarettes?

As a country that is constantly developing, the young generation is also constantly changing. Compared to previous generations, the young generation does not choose traditional cigarettes but instead switches to electronic cigarettes. So what is the reason for this change? Let us answer that question below.

I. Today's young generation is clearly aware of the harmful effects of traditional cigarettes.

After the Covid-19 pandemic, young people today are more concerned about their health than ever. They are gradually shifting to healthy lifestyle choices as well as being aware of the potential risks of using traditional cigarettes. Using traditional cigarettes can cause many harmful effects on health such as lung cancer, cardiovascular disease and respiratory problems. In addition, smoking traditional cigarettes also causes environmental pollution and affects the health of people around.

However, quitting smoking has never been easy, so many young people today choose to use alternative products such as electronic cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes are currently one of the best solutions to provide nicotine to users while minimizing the harmful effects of traditional cigarettes. Currently, many young people are choosing to use electronic cigarettes to replace traditional cigarettes as well as protect their health.

II. Not everywhere you can smoke

To reduce the incidence of illness and death from diseases related to traditional tobacco use, the Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control Act was introduced. Under this law, the use of tobacco is becoming more and more inconvenient, especially in public places where smoking is prohibited. Therefore, young people are increasingly favoring products that provide nicotine that are more discreet and easier to use, such as e-cigarettes. Best of all, unlike cigarettes - you can use vapes in air-conditioned rooms , in closed spaces, and in the UK, even in hospitals.

III. Traditional cigarettes are becoming more and more expensive.

One of the main reasons for the rising price of cigarettes is taxes. Due to the negative effects on health, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank (WB) have recommended that tobacco taxes should be between 66% and 80% of the retail price. These taxes are often used to fund health care programs and other public services. In contrast, e-cigarettes are not subject to the same tax rate, making them cheaper.

Another reason why traditional cigarettes are more expensive is because of the manufacturing process. Traditional cigarettes require a significant amount of resources and labor to grow, harvest, and process. In contrast, e-cigarettes are relatively simple to produce and require fewer raw materials and time.

Overall, the combination of taxes, production costs, and surrounding factors make the cost of traditional cigarette use more difficult for young people.

VI. Traditional cigarettes have negative impacts on the environment

As mentioned above, to grow tobacco, the soil and water environment are contaminated with toxic chemicals. According to WHO, every year about 5% of the forest area is destroyed to grow tobacco and get wood to dry tobacco; it is estimated that every year 18 billion trees are needed to make firewood to dry tobacco. Not only that, the production and use of tobacco also pollutes the environment in general and air pollution in particular. In addition, cigarette butts and other waste also contribute to pollution and increase the amount of waste released into the environment.

Because of the above, many young people who are conscious of protecting the environment have chosen to give up traditional cigarettes and switch to using electronic cigarettes. This is a good sign because using alternative solutions not only protects public health, but also protects the living environment of each of us.

These are all the reasons why the younger generation is not choosing traditional cigarettes but gradually switching to electronic cigarettes. Hopefully the above information will help you have more new perspectives on the tobacco industry. Follow us for more latest information!
