WHAT IS AN ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES ?
Electronic cigarettes (e-cigs), including e-pen, e-mod, e-hookah, and e-cigar, are collectively known as ENDS (electronic nicotine delivery systems). According to the FDA, e-cigarettes are devices that allow users to inhale a vapor containing nicotine and other substances.
Unlike traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes are generally battery -operated and use a heating device to heat the e-liquid contained in a tank , which you can refill after using up the e-liquid inside.
HISTORY OF ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES
Electronic cigarettes were created by an American, Herbert A. Gilbert, and patented in 1963. The purpose was to replace the burning of traditional cigarettes while still retaining the flavor of cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes also create smoke and deliver nicotine into the body, but the smoke of electronic cigarettes is thicker and has a very pleasant aroma, and users can also control the amount of nicotine they want to use.
2003:
The e-cigarette was first developed in Beijing, China by Hon Lik, 52, a pharmacist, inventor and smoker. He invented the device after his father, also a heavy smoker, died of lung cancer. The company that Lik worked for, Golden Dragon Holdings, developed the device and renamed it Ruyan, which means “like smoke.”
April 2006:
Electronic cigarettes are imported into Europe.
2006 – 2007:
Electronic cigarettes appear in America.
2008 – 2010:
This is the time when electronic cigarettes are known to everyone, and issues related to electronic cigarette products and their effects on people are discussed. Questions and evaluations revolve around: "Is it the same as traditional cigarettes?", "Is it a product to replace traditional cigarettes?", "Is it toxic, causing dangerous diseases to people, the environment and society?" ... along with many questions and doubts from users, researchers to national officials.
There has been a lot of research on e-cigarettes during this time, some positive but also some negative. And the research will not stop there.
2011 – 2012 :
There continues to be a constant appearance in articles and mass media talking about e-cigarettes. Of course, there are still both streams of thought and evaluation about e-cigarettes, but it seems that gradually research recognizes that e-cigarettes are becoming more dominant.

PARTS OF AN ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES DEVICE
E-cigarette devices come in many different shapes and sizes. Regardless of the type, they all have the same basic components:
Cartridge (Carto) – core: it is used to hold essential oils in a separate burner.
Atomizer (Atty) – the burner: also known as the hot head or coil, this is one of the most important parts of an electronic cigarette because it turns essential oils into vapor. In a short time, it can generate heat. Like the core, the burner is easily damaged and needs to be replaced. Not only does it affect the regular smoking, but it is also affected by the type of burner, as well as the type of essential oil.
The body (which houses the battery): is the heat-generating device and the largest part of the device. It is large in size, endurance and power source. There are also small models with low power and smaller size but still meet the needs. Besides, it also requires constant charging (usually only after a few hours), so a spare battery is needed. In addition, an “eGo” with a 1000MaH battery is very suitable for those who want to use it for a whole day.
E-liquid – essential oil: Made up of three ingredients: nicotine (some e-liquids do not contain nicotine and only have flavoring), flavoring, and diluent. Diluents come in two main types: propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine, sometimes a combination of both.
WORKING MECHANISM OF ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES
It looks like a real cigarette. The tip has an LED light that lights up when you inhale. When you exhale, the smoke from an e-cigarette is like the smoke from a traditional cigarette but thicker.
All e-cigarettes work in essentially the same way. Inside, there is a battery, a heating element, and a cartridge that holds the e-liquid. Prices vary depending on the power and shape of the device. E-cigarettes come in two flavors, a disposable version and a long-lasting version that comes with a charger and a removable atomizer that can be refilled with e-liquid after use.
When you use it, the sensor inside the cigarette will be activated. The electronic cigarette will heat the essential oil inside and create smoke like a normal cigarette, but the smoke from the electronic cigarette is not toxic and does not cause discomfort to people around because the smoke from the electronic cigarette will dissipate immediately when exhaled by the user.
Electronic cigarettes are manufactured using modern microelectronic and atomization technology. The amount of nicotine in the essential oil has been purified so it is not harmful to the body. In addition, you can also adjust the amount of nicotine in the essential oil, which will gradually help you quit smoking.
Using electronic cigarettes is called “vaping”.
SAFETY LEVEL OF ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES
There are many questions surrounding the safety of e-cigarettes. The FDA is working to provide clear answers to the public.
E-cigarettes don’t burn like traditional cigarettes, and they produce fewer chemicals than regular cigarette smoke. That said, e-cigarettes are much safer than traditional cigarettes, and most researchers agree that people who switch from traditional cigarettes to e-cigarettes significantly reduce their risk of disease. Additionally, there’s currently no evidence that e-cigarette smoke poses a significant health risk, so e-cigarettes may also be better for non-smokers nearby.
There is a lot of evidence that e-cigarettes are environmentally friendly and are used in many public places. The amount of nicotine in e-cigarettes is purified, less than in traditional cigarettes. E-cigarettes also do not cause radiation like some other electronic devices.
Some studies have shown that using e-cigarettes is safer than hookah, nicotine patches and some other pharmaceuticals. E-cigarette smoke contains from 0mg to 18mg of nicotine. However, in the process of reducing or quitting traditional cigarettes, a reasonable diet and exercise regimen are still needed.
There are also many studies on the effects of e-cigarettes on the heart, lungs, nervous system, etc. But it cannot be denied that e-cigarettes are a healthy alternative to traditional cigarettes.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on May 25 published a final rule that would expand its authorization to all products that meet the statutory definition of “tobacco products,” including e-cigarettes, cigars, hookahs, and water pipes. When the rule is put into place, it will prohibit the sale of tobacco products to people under the age of 18 — both in person and online. Additionally, manufacturers, importers, and retailers of newly regulated tobacco products will be subject to any regulation, bringing them in line with other tobacco products that the FDA has regulated since 2009.
