Smokers looking for a safe way to kick their smoking habit will be pleased to know that preliminary research suggests vaping may be the answer.
In an article published earlier this month, Medical News Today reported that a study conducted by scientists at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom showed positive results for smokers who switched to vaping. The study focused on the stress that smoking and vaping put on heart cells, and found that while smoking did produce a stress response, vaping did not.
In experiments conducted on donated human heart cells, the researchers analyzed changes in heart cell activity when exposed to traditional cigarette smoke and vape vapor. According to the results, changes from traditional cigarette smoke could be immediately detected and measured, while vape vapor had no effect on heart cells.
This is the first study to assess the biological effects of vaping on the human body, and to compare its effects to those of cigarette smoke. And it is through studies like this that health organizations and government agencies can make an informed decision about whether vaping is a safe way for people to quit smoking.
This leads to the conclusion of researcher, Professor Marcus Munafo, “these results suggest that smokers can immediately reduce the harmful effects of cigarettes after switching to vaping.”
The study, published this month in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence, opens the door for more research to focus on the effects of vaping on smokers who are trying to quit, rather than on the general population. This is important because the majority of current vapers are former smokers who are trying to quit, so more research is needed on how vaping affects them.
While this is still preliminary research, more research needs to be done to prove its validity. It is a clear indication that any smoker who is using vaping instead of smoking will see a positive change in their health as most of the harmful factors are eliminated. In turn, the act of switching from smoking to vaping alone will save their life.
