Vape like a gentleman

Smoking used to be cool. But standing out in the rain with a raging cough and a sodden cigarette in your hand is not gentlemanly. If you find yourself in this situation, it's time to quit.

But quitting smoking is not easy, and willpower alone is not enough. As Michael Russell once said: “People smoke for the nicotine, but die for the tar.”

E-cigarettes are a new way to deliver nicotine that won’t give you lung cancer or expose you to 7,000 toxic chemicals when you use them. But while we know how to look stylish with a cigarette from models like Miles Davis and Bob Dylan, no one’s talked about how to vape like a gentleman. We asked Electric Tobacconist and Pascal Culverhouse for some tips on vaping.

1. You don't smoke

You won’t smell like cigarette smoke, stain your teeth, accidentally knock ash all over your chinos, or burn your suit. Oh, and you won’t wake up with a dry cough. That’s a good thing. So if you’re using an e-cigarette, you don’t have to sit at the bar and frown like the Marlboro Man.

2. Vaping also has etiquette.

E-cigarettes don’t have the dangers that come with secondhand smoke. But many people don’t realize this and often feel uncomfortable when they see someone vaping near them.

You can ignore the complainers and continue having fun, but this will make you look rude, or worse, give vapers a bad name. So remember to behave in public.

3. It's time to evolve from disposable e-cigarettes

Disposable e-cigs are targeted at beginners for a reason. They’re a good first choice, but you should still upgrade to a more advanced model when you can. Vaporizers not only look better than disposables, but they also give you the ability to customize your settings to suit your preferences. 4. Choose essential oils to satisfy nicotine cravings

The reason why e-cigarettes can help heavy smokers quit is because they allow users to choose the right e-liquid with the right amount of nicotine. New users should not skip nicotine because that can lead to you going back to smoking when you don’t have enough nicotine to satisfy you.

Those who are happy with their current nicotine level and are gradually weaning themselves off nicotine can reduce their dose by a few milligrams at a time, from extra-heavy e-liquids to nicotine-free e-liquids. You should also take the time to experiment with different flavors and PG-VG ratios. Choose European or American e-liquids as they are of higher quality than Chinese e-liquids.

5. Don't try to preach to others

If you have been able to quit a long-term smoking habit in a short time, of course you will want to share it with everyone.

Waking up every morning without coughing your lungs out? Spending your money on something safer? No wonder many long-time smokers consider vaping a gift from God. But that’s where the preaching stops, because you don’t want people walking around telling you what you’re doing is wrong, and you don’t like people stuffing vapes into your head against your will.

If you have a friend who wants to quit, tell them what worked for you, but don’t go up to a stranger on the street and start rambling about vaping. Save your stories for a vaping forum or something.
