RBA Base Types Explained

The RBA deck may seem simple and seemingly without any grand development, but its shape and size play a very important role in its performance, while the size and style of the pins determine how the RBA is used. Although the RBA has a simple shape and structure, its design greatly affects your experience when using it. Some RBA decks are designed specifically for certain types of coils and have different advantages and disadvantages. In this article, we will share with you the characteristics of some popular RBA types and clearly explain how they are designed.

Original 2-pin type

The 2-pin build deck gives you a great experience with the atomizer, the design process of this original deck is not as complicated as the later 2-pin types. The original RBA deck only allows the use of single coils. The downside of this simple deck is that it can only use coils wound from 28g wire. In addition to the small coil holding hole, the two pins of the build deck are usually placed near the middle of the deck, so this type of build deck cannot accommodate large and complex coils.

Tripod type

The Patriot RDA is a three-post RDA , and it was this RDA that made the three-post build a trend for a long time. During that time, the three-post build was a huge upgrade, allowing users to install dual coils. The two outer pins were negative and the middle pin was positive. The three-post build allowed users to experiment with dual coils, larger and more complex coils, but it still had many limitations due to the small coil holes and build deck area.

It was not until a while later that the Dark Horse RDA and Doge V2 released a similar build deck design but with larger coil holes and build chamber area, along with an airflow system to accommodate a large build chamber.

T-shaped tripod build base

Following the three-pin build deck that was often innovative but still had many limitations such as small coil holes and only one positive coil hole making it difficult to install dual coils, manufacturers created the T-shaped three-pin build deck. This type of deck became famous with the Mutation X V4 atomizer , it still has three pins, the positive pole in the middle is a block with two coil holes on top. Apart from the changed positive pole, the build chamber size and the type of coil you can use remain the same, it is just that installing the coil into the atomizer will become easier, creating a better experience. To this day, even some new RDA build decks are designed in this form, but with a little change to increase the base area, giving users more options for larger and more complex coils.

Velocity two-legged build platform

As the development of new deck designs began to slow down, manufacturers were scrambling to come up with the latest atomizer to introduce. They began to look at the original two-post deck because it offered the most build space. With Clapton coils and more complex coils coming to market, the velocity deck seemed like the cleanest solution, and so the Velocity RDA was born. The velocity deck also only had two posts, but each post had two coil holes, and the two posts were placed on the outer edge of the deck, allowing for more complex and unique coils. Many RDAs later adopted the Velocity deck, making it the standard for decks for other atomizers on the market. The Velocity deck was later improved upon, as was the Geek Vape Tsunami RDA, and its design was also changed as with the Twisted Messes RDA Squared.
